Product Description

The Small Sample Adapter (SSA), consisting of a cylindrical sample chamber and spindle, provides a defined geometry system for accurate viscosity measurements of small sample volumes in the order of 2 to 16 mL at precise shear rates. The Small Sample Adapter's rheologically correct cylindrical geometry provides extremely accurate viscosity measurements and shear rate determinations.


The design of the SSA allows the sample chamber to be easily changed and cleaned without disturbing the set-up of the viscometer or temperature bath. This means that successive measurements can be made under identical conditions.
The sample chamber fits into a flow jacket so that precise temperature control can be achieved when a Brookfield circulating temperature bath is used. Direct readout of sample temperature is provided using sample chambers with embedded RTD temperature sensors connected to the DV-I Prime (w/temperature option), DV-II+ PRO, or the DV-III Ultra. Working temperature range for the SSA is from -15°C to 100°C.

Disposable Sample Chambers

Disposable chambers for hard-to-clean materials and were designed to save clean-up time. Kit comes complete with 100 chambers and special size water jacket, Part No. SSA-DCU, and is available only for 13R Chamber. Additional chambers available in quantities of 100, Part No. SC4-13RD-100.

Thermosel SysTem

for Elevated Temperature Testing
Product Description

The difficulty with viscosity measurements of hot melts and liquids at elevated temperatures has been in maintaining accurate temperature control that is consistent from sample to sample so that meaningful data could be obtained. The Brookfield Thermosel solves this problem by providing a stable, precisely controlled sample environment. This, together with the inherent accuracy of the Brookfield Viscometers, is fundamental to the Thermosel System, which produces viscosity measurements that are not only accurate but entirely reproducible.


Several factors contribute to the stable environment:
  • Non-fluctuating temperature control.
  • Small sample volume and insulated sample chamber which reduces temperature gradients within the sample.
  • The rotating spindle, which acts as a built-in stirring device.
  • The test procedure is quite straightforward. Once familiar with the system, unskilled operators can easily produce accurate, reproducible data.

Helipath Stand

for non-flowing substances
Product Description

The Brookfield Helipath™ Stand, when used with a suitable Brookfield Viscometer/Rheometer fitted with a special T-bar type spindle, will permit viscosity/consistency measurements in relative centipoise values for materials having characteristics similar to paste, putty, cream, gelatin, or wax.
Many substances, because of the nature of their yield values, have been considered unsuitable for viscosity or consistency measurements with rotational viscometers. Any rotating spindle, be it cylinder, disc, or paddle, will create a channel in such substances and after a very short time exert a negligible and meaningless torque on any sensing device. This effect also occurs with materials that have a gel structure.


Paint dyes, lithographic inks, and many other substances are thixotropic in that their structure is broken down and their viscosity is decreased when subjected to internal shearing. While no rotating spindle will ever spin freely in such materials, the torque required to produce this motion will become less as the period of internal shearing lengthens. The study of such data can lead to difficulties and require rigid testing procedures for QC.
Other materials, notably pastes and creams, show a combination of the two effects listed above. They will show a yield value as well as a change in relative viscosity/consistency with time.
The Brookfield Helipath™ Stand is designed to slowly lower or raise a Brookfield Viscometer/Rheometer so that its rotating T-bar spindle will describe a helical path through the test sample. By always cutting into fresh material, the problem of channeling or separating is eliminated and meaningful viscosity/consistency measurements can be made. The automatic reversing feature of the Helipath™ Stand allows measurements to be made over a variable period of time.

Technicians can more safely change spindles in much less time with this innovative spindle coupling design. This spring-loaded sleeve design is perfect for the busy lab and/or multiple user environments.
How does it work? Simply attach the EZ-Lock Spindle Coupling to a spindle (see insert above) and then slide the spring-loaded knurled sleeve up. Insert the spindle and then slide the sleeve back down. That's it! Changing spindles has never been quicker or easier...making this the perfect option for multiple testing environments.
The EZ-Lock System can be purchased as an option when ordering new instruments with standard spindles, including DV-I Prime and DV-II+Pro Viscometers and DV-III Ultra Rheometer. Retrofits to existing Brookfield Viscometers and Rheometers are available for the following models: DV-I+, DV-I Prime, DV-II+, DV-II+Pro, DV-II+ Programmable, DV-II+Pro, DV-III and DV-III Ultra.
EZ-Lock is also available for use with your favorite Brookfield accessories such as Thermosel, Small Sample Adapter, Enhanced UL Adapter, UL Adapter, and DIN Adapter. Special brackets are required to accommodate the length of the EZ-Lock system.
